Combine learning English with activities and excursions, for one, two or three weeks. This course is suitable for international younger learners who wish to have a taste of life in a British boarding school, and who are academically driven and ambitious.

Spires + Options at Summer Fields School gives students the opportunity to benefit from six hours per week of additional learning opportunities across a range of academic, sporting and creative areas, including:

 

Entrepreneurship - Developing students' entrepreneurial desire and leadership flair, including:

  • Decision Making
  • Cultivating Leadership Skills for the Future
  • Acts of Confidence

STEAM - Laying the STEAM foundations of inquiry, critical thinking, and process-based learning, including:

  • Start asking non-Googleable questions
  • Visual Thinking
  • Reciprocal Teaching

English Literature – Finding it hard to structure essays, answering questions, and  would like support on analysing prose or poetry? Specific support in some of the following areas include:

  • Working through a difficult question or essay
  • How to structure, approach and write essays under the pressure
  • Revision techniques

Active Camps – Students have the opportunity to mix with local UK children on a range of multi-activity sessions all delivered in English by our experienced and qualified team. Activities include a range of: 

  • Sports 
  • Team Games 
  • Arts & Crafts 
  • Group-based activity

Active Adventure - Enjoy fun, creative, and varied activities with local children which include:

  • Kayaking, archery & shelter building
  • Raft building, fire lighting & survival skills
  • Orienteering, wood carving & slack-lining
  • Sensory trails, outdoor first aid and team building games.

Oxford Spires Plus

Improving English in a practical setting for younger aged students, can often prove beneficial.  Our sister camp programme based at Summer Fields school provides a unique opportunity to integrate fully with camp programme, Active Camps.

Two residential courses allowing visiting international students to be fully immersed within an organised programme aimed at developing new skills, making new friends and above all, having fun, with local Oxford-based English speaking children.

Activities include:

  • Sports
  • Arts & crafts
  • Team games
  • Outdoor exploration

Allowing our international students to take their language learning out of the classroom and into a practical setting where students enjoy making new English friends and communicating in English, is a great way to improve students' conversation and confidence in using the English language.

Our Active Adventure programmes, prides itself in being one of the best outdoor learning providers in Oxfordshire.  By providing a range of adventurous outdoor experiences, we encourage a positive engagement with the natural world through fun and creative programming, for youth and adults alike.
