Welfare Officer

To be responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of a group of residential students as part of our residential junior vacation course team and strive to ensure that each student has a safe, enjoyable and beneficial experience with us.


House Duties &Pastoral (Residential Staff)

As a residential member of staff your role will require that on a rota you will assist with:

  • Being responsible for student welfare
  • Ensuring high standards of student behaviour
  • Ensuring each student’s dietary/religious needs are met
  • Assisting with all residential duties (bed time and wake-up)
  • Perform all residential duties in professional manner
  • Help coordinate House Buddies
  • Assist with monitoring students’ regular medication requirements
  • Help and assist with unwell students
  • Help with maintaining a high level of tidiness and liaise with Housekeeping as necessary
  • Assist with a laundry system
  • Assist with any disciplinary issues with CM/GLs
  • Act as GL for individual students
  • Be a role model for students

 

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of working in residential summer centres
  • Experience of working with children/teenagers
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Safeguarding experience (a level 3 course will be provided)

 

Desirable Attributes

  • Current valid First Aid certificate
  • Child Protection training
  • Recognised qualification in sports coaching, lifeguarding, dance instruction etc
  • CELTA/Trinity/TESOL
  • Experience of British Council Inspections

 

Centre & Head Office 

  • Work with Centre Manager and centre management teams to ensure smooth running of Houses
  • Assist CM and centre management teams on arrival and departure days
  • Assist CM and centre management teams with room allocation
  • Assist CM and centre management teams with fire drills
  • Ensure all information on emergencies/fire drills/Health & Safety is displayed correctly and clearly
  • Respond to all requests/correspondence from HO in a timely fashion
  • Inform CM of any issues/incidents immediately
  • Be aware of all OSI regulations and procedures

 

Social Requirements

  • Participate in activities enthusiastically as per timetable
  • Encourage all students to participate fully in the activity programme
  • Attend and participate in activity staff meetings
  • Accompany and fully supervise students on excursions
  • Be familiar with excursion destination and itinerary
  • Ensure safety of students at all times
  • Attend and participate in pre-excursion briefings

 

Safeguarding

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with
  • To adhere to the OSI safeguarding policy
  • To be the deputy designated safeguarding lead at centre level (level 3 trained)

 

Other Requirements

In addition to the above, all staff are required to:

  • Work positively as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Attend and participate in whole staff meetings
  • Act according to accepted professional standards at all times
  • Act in the welfare of the students at all times
  • Comply with centre and OSI rules and regulations
