Senior Teacher 

The Senior Teacher is responsible for guiding and supporting teaching staff and maintaining the high standards of English tuition that Oxford Spires International strives to deliver to ensure that each student has a safe, enjoyable and beneficial summer school experience


Key Duties - Staff Management

  • With the support of the Centre Manager lead a team of teachers to ensure that they all adhere to high professional standards, and ensure the safety and welfare of all staff and students at all times.
  • Oversee the placement testing of all new students and allocate students to classes with the support of the Centre Manager.
  • Support the Centre Manager with creating and implementing the staff rota.
  • Ensure the teaching team has access to all resources needed to teach their classes.
  • Hold daily meetings with teaching staff to ensure effective communication between teachers and encourage high quality lesson delivery, following the pre-set weekly themes and topics .
  • Attend regular meetings with Senior Managers .
  • Observe teachers regularly to ensure lessons are delivered to a high quality. Teachers with limited experience, or who require more guidance, to be formally observed again in their second week.
  • Conduct formal staff reviews of the teaching team, with support from Senior Management Team .
  • Assist and support teachers with lesson planning, where necessary.
  • Oversee weekly lesson plans to ensure that weekly themes of work are being followed and that continuous enrolment is being accounted for in lesson planning.
  • Induct any new teachers on site in all company policies and procedures
  • Offer weekly CPD sessions for teachers, with optional attendance
  • Oversee the organisation and execution of academic workshops for students
  • Update teaching and class records, on a daily basis, to allow for smooth teaching continuity if cover is needed

 

House Duties &Pastoral (Residential Staff)

As a residential member of staff your role will require that on a rota you will assist with:

  • Being responsible for student welfare
  • Ensuring high standards of student behaviour
  • Ensuring each student’s dietary/religious needs are met
  • Assisting with all residential duties (bed time and wake-up)
  • Perform all residential duties in professional manner
  • Help coordinate House Buddies
  • Assist with monitoring students’ regular medication requirements
  • Help and assist with unwell students
  • Help with maintaining a high level of tidiness and liaise with Housekeeping as necessary
  • Assist with a laundry system
  • Assist with any disciplinary issues with CM/GLs
  • Act as GL for individual students
  • Be a role model for students

 

Student Welfare

  • All staff have a responsibility for implementing Oxford Spires International policies and procedures, and representing the school to the highest standard.
  • All staff have a responsibility to ensure the safeguarding of all students and to fully understand and follow the school’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • Help to maintain student behaviour, safety and welfare.
  • Supervise airport arrivals and departures as necessary
  • Take part in the rota for accompanying and supervising full day weekend off site excursions .
  • Take part in the overnight on call duty rota as necessary 

 

 

 

 

Essential Requirements

  • DELTA, PGCE, TEFLI or TEFLQ qualification or equivalent.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills, with a high level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Previous experience of working with young people at an EFL summer school, ideally in a management role
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexible with excellent organisational and problem solving skills
  • Hard-working and responsible attitude
  • All staff will be subject to safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure

 

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience in creating lesson materials.
  • Previous experience in leading a team of staff and supporting new teachers.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Full, clean driving license

 

Other Information

  • You will be required to work six days each week made up of five of days in the school plus accompanying one off site day trip
  • All staff are expected to assist with keeping the premises and company equipment clean, safe and in good order
  • You may be required to work at more than one location throughout your contract
  • During weeks of lower student attendance numbers you may be required to assist the Teachers or Activity Team with their duties.
  • Undertake other duties, appropriate to your post, as may reasonably be required by Oxford Spires International.
