Activity Leader

Help to plan and deliver and supervise on-site and off-site activities and excursions as part of the Summer School Activity Team, strive to ensure that each student has a safe, enjoyable and beneficial summer school experience.


Key Duties - Activities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, fun and appropriate activities for groups of language students typically aged 13-17, both on and off-site.
  • Deliver walking tours of UK towns and cities using Oxford Spires Language School materials.
  • Accompany full day off site excursions.
  • A large proportion of activities include visits to local museums and attractions and could involve using public transport with students.
  • Supervise students’ designated free time periods.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with fellow activity staff and the Senior Managers to ensure that all students have a positive all-round experience.
  • Meet and greet students at the airport when they first arrive and accompany them back to the school.
  • Ensure the safety of students during all activities and excursions.

 

House Duties &Pastoral (Residential Staff)

As a residential member of staff your role will require that on a rota you will assist with:

  • Being responsible for student welfare
  • Ensuring high standards of student behaviour
  • Ensuring each student’s dietary/religious needs are met
  • Assisting with all residential duties (bed time and wake-up)
  • Perform all residential duties in professional manner
  • Help coordinate House Buddies
  • Assist with monitoring students’ regular medication requirements
  • Help and assist with unwell students
  • Help with maintaining a high level of tidiness and liaise with Housekeeping as necessary
  • Assist with a laundry system
  • Assist with any disciplinary issues with CM/GLs
  • Act as GL for individual students
  • Be a role model for students

 

General Supervision

  • Supervise students during break and meal times
  • Help to maintain student behaviour, safety and welfare at all times
  • Take part in the overnight on call duty rota as necessary
  • Act as the welfare representative for a particular group of students each week and meet them regularly throughout the day to ensure they are enjoying their stay
  • Complete any necessary paperwork, such as registers, accident forms and welfare reports, as required by the role.
  • All staff have a responsibility for implementing Oxford Spires Language School policies and procedures, and representing the school to the highest standard at all times.
  • All staff have a responsibility to ensure the safeguarding of all students and to fully understand and follow the school’s safeguarding policy and procedures.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Outgoing and enthusiastic personality
  • Excellent spoken English language skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and be able to use own initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • A flexible, cooperative, and responsible attitude
  • Active and happy walking reasonable distances with students
  • All staff will be subject to safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure

 

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous experience of working with young people at an EFL summer school
  • Experience or knowledge of residential welfare
  • Specific skills in areas such as sport, art and music
  • Knowledge of games/activities appropriate for EFL students
  • First aid certificate

 

Other Information

  • Assist with keeping the premises and company equipment clean, safe and in good order
  • Help with room inspections, general admin support and other tasks to assist the smooth running and quality of the program
  • Undertake other duties, appropriate to your post, as may reasonably be required by Oxford Spires Language School
  • You will be required to work six days each week made up of five days running activities plus accompanying one off site day trip
  • Shifts will normally be morning plus afternoon or afternoon plus evening, with a full day off each week usually falling on a week day
  • You may be required to work at more than one location throughout your contract
