Football Education


Passionate about football?  Spires have teamed up with Oxford United Football Club to offer three residential, age-specific football education courses for boys and girls ages 9-17 based in the city of Oxford, during the spring and summer vacation. 

Global playmakers now have the opportunity to stay for either 5 or 12 nights and follow a fully-immersive Football Development, Performance or Language Education course having carefully prepared 'on' and 'off' pitch training programme delivered by Oxford United Football Club's Academy coaches. 

The residential courses operate from three outstanding venues, including:

  • St Edward's School, Oxford. (April courses for boys & girls ages 12-17 years)
  • Summer Fields School, Oxford (July/August courses for boys & girls ages 9-13 years)
  • Oxford Brookes University, Oxford (June/July/August courses for boys & girls ages 14-17 years)

Courses are available for both UK-based players and international players keen to improve their game whilst living and learning in the city of Oxford.

Football Development Education (UK & International Players)

  • 5 night residential programmes for players aged 9-13 years; boys and girls
  • Based at St Edward's School and Summer Fields School, Oxford's premier independent boarding schools
  • 30 hours of age-specific on and off pitch football training combined with stadium and Oxford city tours
  • Allowing players to visit the world-famous University of Oxford and the University's own football club

Football Performance Education (UK & International Players)

  • 5 night residential programmes for players aged 14-17 years; boys and girls
  • Based at St Edward's School and Oxford Brookes University, venues ideal for older players
  • 30 hours age-specific of on and off pitch football training combined with stadium and Oxford city tours
  • Allowing players to visit the world-famous University of Oxford and the University's own football

Football Language Education (International Players)

  • 5 & 12 night residential programmes for players aged 9-13 & 14-17 years; boys and girls
  • Based at St Edward's School, Summer Fields School and Oxford Brookes University
  • 15 hours age-specific of on and off pitch football training and 15 hours of Football English language tuition, combined with stadium and Oxford city tours
  • Allowing players to visit the world-famous University of Oxford and the University's own football

Innovative Football training with Oxford United Academy's coaches combined with Football English language learning taught by Oxford Spires English teachers

Our Football Language Education experiences includes a carefully designed English language learning course, with age-specific football coaching for international players aged 9-13 years and 14 -17 years, boys and girls. 

Our specific language learning curriculum being football specific, takes players on a journey through different areas of a professional football club all aimed at improving Football English.

Having age-specific courses and venues, ensures all visiting international players have the best possible experience with us in Oxford including, learning, coaching, accommodation, food and exploring Oxford.

Football Language Education Course:

  • Specific Football English learning content from; Player to Manager to Journalist to Analyst

Football Development & Performance Education


Open to both UK based and visiting international players our residential 5 night football only programmes provide an opportunity to work with Oxford United's Academy coaches in two age-specific Football Education programmes.

Players age 9-13 (Football Development Education) and 14-17 (Football Performance Education) receive specific football training including both 'on' and 'off' pitch sessions.  parents for all education entry points will have a detailed initial consultation and students will be given an ‘early needs analysis’ assessment, to guide their bespoke programme. Such a detailed approach will ensure that each student is personally guided by an assigned mentor who has the relevant expertise and experience to support them at every stage of their chosen educational pathway.

We have supported students to gain entry into many of the UK leading Independent Schools (many receiving Scholarship awards) and some of the World’s leading Universities.
