The OCR Media Studies A Level provides an integrated introduction to the study of the media and the contemporary media landscape. The content of the two-year course is underpinned by a set of key media concepts:

Topics include:

  • Media language
  • Media representation
  • Media industries
  • Media audiences

Our Media Studies A Level course online students will view, evaluate and analyse a variety of media products, and develop practical skills spanning a range of media forms. Topics covered are contemporary, and diverse, encouraging development of research and problem-solving skills as well as creativity. Students will also refine debating skills through the discussion of contemporary issues from a range of perspectives.

Media Studies A Level students sit two written papers. There is also a non-examination assessment, in the form of coursework, worth 30% of the qualification.

Additional information

  • Media Studies A-level can still be taken by students outside of the UK. However, as the subject has UK based exams, students will need to travel to the UK to sit them.

In the October of Year 11, 12 and 13 parents and guardians will receive an email asking which exams the learner intends to take, and where they would like to take them.

Parents and guardians must inform OSI if they need assistance finding an exam centre by mid-October. OSI can support you in finding a local exam centre.

It is then down to the individual to register with the centre of choice and pay the exam fees to the centre directly.

There are no formal entry requirements for this subject.

However, if you’re looking to study this subject as one of four A-levels, we strongly advise you only do so if you are predicted at least a grade 7 at GCSE / IGCSE in this subject or a relevant subject.
