AS & A-level English Literature Online Course Overview

A-level English Literature covers a range of texts in the three main forms: prose, poetry and drama. AS English Literature students will sit papers covering poetry, prose and drama. At A-level, a Shakespeare play and a pre-twentieth text must be studied as well as texts written after 1900.

The qualification includes two exams at each level.

A-level English literature learners develop a lifelong understanding and enjoyment of literary texts, and, importantly, gain a range of essential skills, including: the ability to write clearly and effectively; skills in developing arguments; skills in researching and managing information and the ability to analyse complex texts in different forms and styles

A-level English Literature online students will learn:

  • To develop skills of reading and analysis of texts
  • Learn to effectively communicate including the ability to discuss the critical contexts of texts

In the October of Year 11, 12 and 13 parents and guardians will receive an email asking which exams the learner intends to take, and where they would like to take them.

Parents and guardians must inform OSI if they need assistance finding an exam centre by mid-October. OSI can support you in finding a local exam centre.

It is then down to the individual to register with the centre of choice and pay the exam fees to the centre directly.

There are no formal entry requirements for this subject.

However, if you’re looking to study this subject as one of four A-levels, we strongly advise you only do so if you are predicted at least a grade 7 at GCSE / IGCSE in this subject or a relevant subject.
